Got carried away with gradution. Oops! My Art History capstone ended up pretty cool though. Its a moving panorama box (or crankie) I built which sets long panorama paintings into motion– in this case the Garibaldi Panorama. Exhibited first in 1860, the Garibaldi panorama depicts in 55 scenes the “Heroic Life and Career“ of Guiseppe Garibaldi, a revolutionary well known for his role in the unification of Italy, or the Risorgimento. It’s in the collection at Brown University but difficult to view on account of its size and fragile conservation status. SO... I made this who contraption-

Also the digital research page I worked on for a class my junior year was published recently.

Paintings by Tim White. Top one is my desktop background.

The Science Fiction Encyclopedia describes White as “a representative of a new school of super-realists that began shaping British sf art in the mid-1970s.” The entry goes on to note that “Though Chris Foss and Jim Burns were equally influential, there is a case for calling him the finest technician in this tradition, as his use of very fine detail imbues his paintings with a luminous clarity sometimes reminiscent of René Magritte (1898-1967) or, rather differently, of Andrew Wyeth (1917-2009).”

From the instagram run by his daughter- “Tim's process for creating his paintings usually began by modelling in plasticine. Often poaching household objects, and using all sorts of tools, many he either fashioned himself or designed and had them made by a dentist tools company. The little models would then be painted in acrylic, sometimes airbrushed and varnished, then photographed with just the right lighting for the composition.”

Some of my pit fired pottery from October, 2023. I used a few different powders (cobalt carbonate? Iron oxide? etc...) and some banana peels, pistachio seeds, and copper wire. I ran it for maybe 4 hours and left it overnight. (All bisque fired and sealed with renaissance wax)
